ViV LiBの商品に使用している「セルビッジデニム」の今後の在庫状況についてお知らせいたします。
改めてになりますが、セルビッジとは、生地の両端にできるほつれ止めの「耳」のことです。特に旧式のシャトル織機で織られたデニムには、独特の風合いや表情を持つセルビッジが生まれます。
デニムと言えば、児島が有名です。実際に児島地域には、長年デニム製品づくりを支えてきた熟練した縫製技術者や、ミシンの調整・修理を担うベテランの職人が数多く存在します。
一方、岡山県内でも井原市は、織物産業の長い歴史を背景に「デニム生地の産地」として知られる地域です。井原は江戸時代から織物の町として栄えてきた地域で、その長年培われたものづくりの技術が、現在のデニム生地づくりにも受け継がれています。染めや織りにこだわる職人たちの手によって、高品質なデニム生地が今も生み出され、日本のデニムを支える大切な産地となっています。
現代の織機は高速で均一な美しい生地を織りますが、ViV LiBで使用している井原市の老舗デニム生地工場では現在も現役で使用されている旧式シャトル織機によって、時間をかけて丁寧に織り上げられています。
現在、世界中のラグジュアリーブランドやコアなデニムファンが岡山のデニムを指名買いします。その背景には、手間や時間を惜しまず、昔ながらの製法を守り続ける職人たちのこだわりがあります。
旧式織機は、最新の高速織機と比べて大幅にゆっくりとした速度で織られます。さらに、織機の状態や糸の具合を職人が細かく確認しながら調整する必要があります。その「生産効率の悪さ」こそが、大量生産品にはない唯一無二の味わいを生み出しているのです。
限られた生産量の中で希少性が高まっており、またこのセルビッジデニムは世界的に需要が集中しているため、生地によっては現在発注から入荷まで数年待ちとなるケースも発生しています。

また、在庫がなくなり次第終了となるものや、次回入荷時期が未定のものがございます。
この生地を使いたいと思っても、必要な時に手に入らない可能性もあります。
そのため、予告なく販売終了となるものも出てくる可能性がございます。
生地工場の方と話をする中で、一本の糸から一枚の生地になるまで、多くの時間と技術が込められていることを改めて感じました。

Regarding Okayama Selvedge Denim Specifications and Future Availability

We would like to inform you about the future availability of the “Selvedge Denim” used in ViV LiB products.
To briefly explain, selvedge refers to the finished edges of fabric that prevent fraying. In particular, denim woven on traditional shuttle looms develops a unique texture and character along its selvedge edges.
When it comes to denim, Kojima is one of the most well-known regions in Japan. In the Kojima area, there are many highly skilled sewing specialists who have supported denim product manufacturing for many years, as well as experienced craftsmen who handle the adjustment and repair of sewing machines.
On the other hand, Ibara City in Okayama Prefecture is known as a “denim fabric production area” with a long history rooted in its textile industry. Ibara has flourished as a textile town since the Edo period, and the craftsmanship and techniques cultivated over many years continue to be passed down into today’s denim fabric production. Through the hands of craftspeople dedicated to dyeing and weaving, high-quality denim fabrics are still created today, making Ibara an important region that supports Japanese denim.
While modern looms are capable of producing beautiful fabrics quickly and consistently, the long-established denim fabric mill in Ibara City used by ViV LiB continues to carefully weave fabrics over time using vintage shuttle looms that are still actively in operation today.
Currently, luxury brands and core denim enthusiasts around the world specifically seek out Okayama denim. Behind this is the dedication of craftspeople who continue to preserve traditional manufacturing methods without sparing time or effort.
Compared to the latest high-speed looms, traditional shuttle looms operate at a significantly slower speed. In addition, craftspeople must carefully monitor and adjust the condition of the loom and the quality of the yarn throughout the weaving process. This very “inefficiency” in production is what creates a unique character and texture that mass-produced products cannot achieve.
Due to limited production capacity, the rarity of this selvedge denim continues to increase. In addition, because this selvedge denim is in high demand worldwide, there are cases where it currently takes several years from ordering to delivery depending on the fabric.
We would like to provide further information regarding fabric availability and future sales.
Even with the fabrics currently secured by ViV LiB, if orders for the same product temporarily concentrate, there may be cases where additional production is not possible depending on fabric availability.
In addition, some fabrics will be discontinued once the current stock runs out, while the timing of future arrivals for others has not yet been determined.
Therefore, some products may be discontinued without prior notice.
